pins and needles

I am crazy about mini things, I have mini bears, mini quilts, mini punch needle and now these.
My min pin cushion collection I created using felted wool bits, embroidery thread , buttons and the bases are from plastic water bottles/vitamin water. They are stuffed with soft cotton and all hand sewn. I cut a circle for the bottom then a band that goes around the middle and the top was another circle. My husband complains that I am hoarding our garbage now since I started my mixed media voyage. Right now I am keeping several wrappers from gourmet chocolates to see what I can do with them next! I think these are great gifts for those sewing friends you may have.

little things

I have a dear friends birthday this week and wanted to do a mini something for her. I love the diorama's you can pick up at your local Ben Franklin's and make whatever you want with it. I used bits of paper, beads, chalk stamps for aging, old trim, stamps and flexible wire mesh for shaping the nest. I love trees and bird nests! When I was a child I found a nest and kept it for quite a while and made one myself. It seems to me that those fond memories you have of your childhood are great ideas for now. I live by the Rocky Mountains with a stunning view of the mountains and mini scrub oak trees. The leaves are not all off but snow is everywhere!
I want to give thanks for the beautiful place I live, good friends and family nearby and having food on my table each day. It is so easy not to be grateful until it is taken away. I have had a blessed life and want to share what I can. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

self portrait

Do you ever feel like life is so crazy you have a chicken dancing on your head? The last two weeks have been a blur of vacations, birthday parties, back to school shopping and cleaning! One of my moments of sanity I painted this quirky picture to lighten up my mood. I found some great papers that had all these collaged pieces together I just had to use it. I am a little intimadated with  painting people but I liked this one. Okay I do not have pony tails but the blue eyes work! Anyone else having a crazy life?

bigger than us.....

While we were in the forest at Mount Rainier the sunlight was streaming through and looked magical. Some of the cedars were a thousand years old. Hard to imagine a living thing that old. I love looking at the rings on a cut tree to see the variations and thickness of each year. We crossed a suspension bridge going across a river-I am so GLAD it was not high up in the air! It would sway and bounce as you crossed one  at a time. You can't help but think about the natural beauty that surrounds you. I totally forgot about my stressed out life at home!

Mount Rainier

My family and I took a nostalgic trip to all my old stomping grounds of where I grew up and lived, Washington state. We first stayed for a couple of days by Mount Rainier, it was beautiful! The weather was perfect, about 70 degrees and clear to see all over from the top. As you can see the top trail was still covered by snow so we did not try that one but there were gorgeous water falls to see lower down. My husband the avid hiker about killed me the first day. The flowers were blooming everwhere, reds, pinks, blues..........

Arts week

At my local elementary school I am in charge of art week. I have the best time coming up with a theme and projects that work for all ages. Our theme this year is "once upon a time" and is all about fairy tales.
The artist Su Blackwell inspired me with her style of art and we are going to do it in metal tooling foil dioaramas of fairytales. I will download my examples soon! They turned out great! I have a friend making a large balloon dragon that will amazing too. Stay tuned for all the fun things we did!

I am finding so many great and talented artists! I love su Blackwell and her use of books and fairytale themes. I love finding art in such simple things too.

what party?

okay so I had a birthday and I did not want to remember that. Many people did which was very nice.It somehow reminds you that all the stuff you said you would do by a certain age: be a world famous book illustrator, retired and living off of royalties......still look know! I have mellowed but still want to make my mark. I am trying to just let it happen. happy birthday to me!

For some reason I am attractied to layers of color and torn bits and pieces when putting together my pictures. I love having many textures and words that seem blend together. These are my latest little pictures I took up to Park City. I really loved the way they turned out. Spring is coming and I can hardly wait! It is my favorite time of the year-minus the allergies. I love the colors, the blossoms, the sun!
I have been working on other projects I will have to show you-rug hooking, jewelry.........journals. So many things and so little time! It is so hard to concetrate on one idea or medium, it just seems so much more interesting to use it all!

more pink

This collection is some of my favorite! I could have hundreds all over my house.

Okay so I am going to try to update my blog more consistently and add pics. I added more originals to Paisley Pomegranate in Park city which kept me busy. They were hard to let go! I also happened upon soldering very darling pendants with relatives of mine in black and white. They caught on at my school and many orders are coming in for mothers day! I can customized them with any photos and add my personal touch on them with beads and very cool fiber necklaces.
Being creative is becoming easier and flowing faster-rug hooking has also started up again. I just can't seem to stop working on a project.
I found an amazing artist with metal on etsy named payton jett-check her items out especially how to etch your copper. I would love to meet and learn from so many!
